Have you ever watched a cooking show and thought: “I can do that.”
Well, now is your chance to give it a shot and star in your own cooking video!
The United Nations has declared 2016 the International Year of Pulses (IYP). Canada is one of the world’s largest pulse producing nations, growing lentils, beans, peas, and chickpeas. In celebration of IYP, Chef Michael Smith and Canadian Lentils are inviting Canadian bloggers to submit a pitch video featuring your own signature lentil recipe. If you make the cut, you will be invited for an all-expenses paid trip to Prince Edward Island and Chef Michael Smith’s test kitchen between April 1 and April 10, 2026 (each winner will spend three days in PEI). You will go behind the scenes and learn trade secrets from Michael as he coaches you through everything you need to know to professionally host your own cooking show. Think cooking show boot camp. Before you know it, the director will yell “Lights. Camera. Action.” and you will be the Star of the Show!
To enter, simply grab the nearest iPhone (or any smartphone) and record a 1-2 minute video of yourself and your recipe. Be sure to include the following:
- Tell us who you are...
- Tell us why you love lentils...
- Tell us about your recipe and what makes it special...
- Tell us why you should be the Star of the Show...
A few things to keep in mind:
- You are not being judged based on production value so please do not record with professional gear. A smartphone quality video is just fine
- The recipe is important, but so are you – show us your personality
- Keep it short and sweet

- Fill out the entry form
- Make sure you have your YouTube video link, a Word document with your recipe and a hi-res picture of your dish
- Once you have submitted all required information, your video will be instantly live on the contest website. From there you can start sharing your video to gather likes on social media
